Expertise — The Art of Metal Illusion
Our exclusive technique
Expertise
Embrun Salt
The illusion of metal on wood is an art that demands precision, mastery of materials, and a keen sense of aesthetics. At Sel d'Embrun, each project is treated as a unique work of art—from the initial sketch to the final delivery.
01
The technique
The Metal Illusion: a realism that deceives the eye
Our exclusive technique transforms raw wood into ultra-realistic metal—brushed steel, patinated rust, oxidized zinc, antique cast iron. No real metal is used. The result is a lightweight, durable material, infinitely customizable, indistinguishable from the original to the eye and touch.
This approach meets the most demanding architectural constraints: controlled weight for old ceilings, M1 fireproof certification for public buildings, weather resistance for outdoor spaces.
02
The manufacturing
A work of precision, piece by piece
Each piece is handcrafted in our Embrun workshop. The wood is prepared, treated, and then worked layer by layer to achieve the desired effect. The patinas are custom-mixed for each project—no two pieces are alike.
The materials are selected for their durability, visual appeal, and compatibility with the site's constraints. Each step is documented.
03
The delivery
From the workshop to your space, without compromise
Each delivery includes a personalized maintenance kit and technical documentation. For large-scale projects, we handle installation and coordination with other trades.
Photos are systematically taken during manufacturing — for your monitoring and to create the reference file for your project.
Controlled Technical Constraints
Controlled Weight
5 to 10 times lighter than real metal. Ideal for old ceilings and fragile structures.
Fireproof M1 certified
M1 treatment for public access buildings (restaurants, hotels). Compliance with French fire safety standards.
External Resistance
Special formulation for covered outdoor spaces, terraces and protected facades.
Durable Materials
Low VOC resins. Wood sourced locally whenever possible.
