A genuine steel partition demands a load-bearing structure, a steelworker, a handling crew and a wall capable of bearing 80 to 120 kg of ironwork. Camille Marchand's industrial glass partition technique starts from the opposite observation: nearly all of that weight is unnecessary to achieve the desired effect.
The uprights, crossbars and rivets are crafted from solid wood, machined then hand-patinated: brushed steel, aged zinc, matte cast iron or corten rust. The result fools the eye down to the touch. Only tapping reveals the wood, and no visitor is going to knock on your partition. The same wood-and-metal-effect approach also applies to our custom faux metal beams, if you are looking to complete the industrial look across an entire room.
The direct consequence: the piece weighs between 8 and 18 kg depending on its dimensions. It mounts onto a standard drywall partition with no reinforcement, no masonry work and no construction noise. One installer is enough for a two-hour fitting. Get a free quote for your industrial glass partition within 72 hours.
Available finishes
Our most requested finish. Saturated anthracite grey with directional reflections that shift with the light. Understated, strong and timeless. Works perfectly in open-plan kitchens, lofts and home offices.
A blue-grey patina with cool tones and irregular transitions that mimic the natural oxidation of zinc. Ideal for Haussmann-era interiors, apartments with mouldings or white kitchens looking for a material contrast.
Warm ochres and browns, the look of weathering steel. Our most organic finish. It warms a room and pairs naturally with raw wood, brick and concrete. Brings real depth to restaurants and craft-beer bars.
All finishes are sealed and do not transfer to the touch. Maintenance: a dry cloth. No metal polish required.
Iki Hana, Chalon-sur-Saone. Kitchen partition and faux beams. Delivered and installed in one day.
Use cases
Visually separates the dining area from the living room without blocking light or sealing off the space. Mounted on top of an island or against a brick wall.
Creates a physical boundary between the workspace and the living area. The partition lets light and sight lines through while providing the relative acoustic buffer of a lightweight divider.
Restaurants, bars, boutiques, hotels: M1 certification is available on request. Camille has already made partitions for the Delirium Cafe in Dijon and several chalets in Megeve.
Define zones across a large open floor plan without a load-bearing wall. The metal effect structures the space and gives identity to volumes that can otherwise feel too neutral.
Objective comparison
The right choice depends on your substrate, your budget and your use case. This table summarises the technical criteria that drive the decision.
| Criterion | Sel d'Embrun (patinated wood) | Steelworker (genuine steel) |
|---|---|---|
| Weight (1.20 x 2.10 m) | 10 to 16 kg | 70 to 110 kg |
| Fixed to drywall | Yes (anchors into studs) | No (structural reinforcement required) |
| M1 fire-retardant certification | Yes, on request | Depends on the finish coating |
| Lead time | 3 to 6 weeks, made to order | 6 to 12 weeks (installation included) |
| Indicative price | Quotes from 800 EUR | From 2,500 EUR excluding installation |
| Delivery across France | Yes, delivered ready to hang | Depends on the steelworker |

Their choice
"The partition fits our space perfectly. Customers can't tell it isn't real metal."
"Installed in one day, no building work. We wanted to divide the kitchen without losing the light, and that's exactly what we got."
"The chalet needed an industrial touch without sacrificing the exposed timber. The result is flawless."
Every grain, every irregularity is created by hand. No machine can replicate that.

Good to know
A Sel d'Embrun partition weighs between 8 and 18 kg depending on its dimensions, compared to 60 to 120 kg for a genuine steel partition of the same size. That 5-to-10 ratio is decisive: it eliminates the need for floor or wall reinforcement and simplifies installation to a single installer.
Yes, and that is precisely why the wood technique is chosen in many homes and public buildings. A steel partition of the same size often requires a load-bearing wall or metal reinforcement. Solid painted wood reduces the load to a level compatible with drywall, provided anchors are fixed into the studs. Camille specifies the exact loads in the quote.
The price depends on the surface area, the finish (brushed steel, aged zinc, corten rust) and the number of panes. As a guide, a kitchen-to-living-room divider measuring 1.20 x 2.10 m starts at around 800 to 1,200 EUR. A free quote is issued within 72 hours of receiving your project description.
A genuine glass partition requires welded steel or aluminium profiles, laminated or tempered glass, and a load-bearing structure sized accordingly. Sel d'Embrun wood partitions reproduce the look of metal profiles through trompe-l'oeil: the uprights and crossbars are solid wood, treated and hand-patinated to perfectly imitate steel. There is no glass integrated, making it a decorative divider rather than a structural partition - ideal for opening up a space without sealing it off.
Yes, provided the fire-retardant finish is applied. Camille applies an M1 (fire reaction) treatment on request, which makes the piece compliant with the requirements of establishments open to the public: restaurants, bars, hotels, retail. The certification is delivered with the piece at handover.
